CSU Undergraduate Han Lei Publishes a Paper in the Prestigious International Journal Advanced Science

Recently, Han Lei, a Grade 2016 undergraduate of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of SCU, published under the direction of Professor Liang Shuquan and Distinguished Professor Wang Liangbing a research paper titled “Anchoring Pt Single Atoms on Te Nanowires for Plasmon-Enhanced Dehydrogenation of Formic Acid at Room Temperature” in the prestigious international SCI journalAdvanced Science(impact factor: 15.804), with Professor Liang Shuquan and Distinguished Professor Wang Liangbing from CSU and Assistant Professor Zheng Xusheng from the University of Science and Technology of China as joint corresponding authors, Han Lei as the first author and CSU as the first unit.

Formic acid is a recyclable, non-toxic, safe and cheap bulk chemical and also a good liquid phase carrier of hydrogen energy source with hydrogen content up to 4.4wt%. Under the action of catalyst, formic acid can be decomposed into hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Therefore, formic acid has drawn global attention in the field of clean-energy and new-energy vehicles. Catalytic decomposition of formic acid, however, requires high temperature, and decomposition transformation of formic acid under room temperature has been a difficulty of domestic and foreign researches. In Han Lei’s paper, coupled plasmon resonance catalysis is adopted innovatively to realize high-efficiency decomposition of formic acid and high-efficiency hydrogen generation under room temperature by catalysis of formic acid with Pt single-atoms loaded on Te nanowires, where the transformation frequency reaches 3070 h-1and the selectivity to hydrogen 100%. Further research indicates that the hot electron transfer mechanism which predominates the plasmon resonance catalysis with single-atom catalyst can significantly speed up the critical process of transformation of HCOO* to CO2δ-*, thus promote high-efficiency hydrogen generation of formic acid under room temperature. This research achieves an organic combination of single-atom catalysis and plasmon resonance catalysis and provides a new thought for improving single-atom catalysis performance.

Related work has been strongly supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hunan High-level Talent Aggregation Project, Hunan Excellent Youth Foundation, CSU Innovation Driving Program and CSU Scientific Research Start-up Fund. Based on this, Han Lei has attended the CSU Annual Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship 2019 and won a prize and will attend on behalf of CSU the 12thAnnual National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
